Visiting the bike shop is very dangerous. I was supposed to buy a bottle of tire sealant, but ended up with a new set of Shimano Deore XT 11-speed 11-46T cassette because they gave me a good deal. With a new cogset, I might as well convert my Trek Fuel EX to a 1X set-up, and that's just what I did.
A new cassette requires a fresh chain. I was sourcing for a gold KMC locally but I can't find one so I ordered on Amazon. My bike buddy suggested that I try AbsoluteBlack's oval chainrings so I got these as well. It took a while for the parts to arrive, but now they're finally installed.
I've only did road rides in the UP-Ateneo area. Initial impression is I like it. The oval chainrings felt different at first few minutes, but after a while I got used to it. I'm looking forward to trying this out on trails when the pandemic is over.
