My first attempt at conquering the infamous Shotgun climb in San Mateo on my mountain bike was sadly a failure.
I did all the things that I planned to do - I started slow at my own pace on my lowest gear and yet that wasn't enough. It was just too steep, too long and there were hardly any areas for me to recover. Even shaded areas where I could stop by and rest are limited.
I still need to train some more.
With my heart rate up and my legs feeling the fatigue, I decided to turn around at the 2.5-kilometer mark vowing to return another day to finish what I started.
