My pre-race food intake plan was spot on. As I sit here and blog about what happened this morning, I really don't feel that wasted at all compared to the previous times I biked the La Mesa trails.
With a few meters to go, my legs were starting to cramp, but I wasn't feeling dehydrated nor was I near empty. If it weren't for that, I think I could've pushed my pace some more. My cadence was still smooth and I could've shifter to a higher gear. I guess I'll do that next time. But right now, I'm really happy with how I performed.
So what was my intake to prepare for the race? Below's the list. Let me know what you think.
A week before the race, I started taking in lots of fluid, mainly water. No sodas or any junk drink.
The night before the race, I ate a plateful of pasta. I also put my Camelbak bladder that's 1/4 full of water in the freezer so I'll have cold drinking water during the race.
I woke up early on race day and ate another plateful of pasta and drank a glass of water.
While waiting for the race to start, I was already hydrating. I got to finish a 1.5-liter bottle of Gatorade. The consequence? I was peeing a lot.
Thirty minutes before the race I ate one sachet of Powerbar Gel with 2x caffeine.
During the race, I drank lots of cold water from my hydration pack and ate three sachets of Powerbar Gels.
After finishing, I ate a Powerbar together with another 1.5 liters of Gatorade.
